SMALL GRANTS FUND

Whitleigh Big Local seeks to improve the well-being of our community by improving the health and well-being of the community, through supporting their growing confidence and encouraging residents to do things for themselves.  

Our Small grants scheme aims to support activities in Whitleigh that will provide community benefit or address a genuine community need.  

Applications must clearly show how the proposal contributes to the growth, development, improvement of social skills or the health and wellbeing of residents of Whitleigh, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious, or other opinions. 

It must also fit within one or more of the Whitleigh Big Local priority themes of:

  • Children and young people 

  • Health and wellbeing 

  • Parks and the environment 

  • Community Engagement 

This scheme offers grants of up to £500 but you must be able to complete your project within one year of the grant award. Any group or individual can apply if their project benefits the residents of Whitleigh and is able to demonstrate that it fits with the objectives of Whitleigh Big Local.  

This can include groups of friends, Voluntary or Community groups, not for profit social enterprises / local charitable organisations or individuals.  

How are Decisions made? 

Decisions will be made by a panel of trained community members. In assessing the applications consideration will be given to.  

  • Is the application clear about what and how the project will be delivered? 

  • Does the project address an identified need or opportunity?  

  • Does the applicant have the skills to deliver the activity?  

  • Is the budget accurate and does it represent good value for money? 

  • Will the project have an impact for local people and how will it be evidenced? 

Successful applicants must:  

  • State on advertising or publicity that funds were received from Whitleigh Big Local.  

  • Provide evidence that shows how the grant was spent. This can be photos, videos- feedback from residents, be as creative as you like.  

  • Provide a report on the impact that the grant has had; Who has benefited from the grant – what difference has it made to Whitleigh?  

  • At the end of the year provide a final & accurate breakdown of how the grant was spent.  

     

We will not fund: 

  • Activity that does not fit with our Whitleigh Big Local priorities. 

  • Applications from individuals or private profit-making organisations. 

  • Alcohol or tobacco related activity. 

  • Activity which promotes specific religious or political views.  

  • Retrospective funding for goods or services purchased prior to grant approval. 

What happens if my application is unsuccessful? 

  • Unsuccessful applications will be informed by letter/ email within 7 days of the decision being made. 

 

Can the same applicant come back for another grant? 

  • We will only grant one applicant one grant in any 12 months. But if you are unsuccessful you can re-apply to us with an amended application.

  • Encourage more activities, getting more going on in the area. 

  • Activities that develop community spirit. 

  • Activities that promote or celebrate the natural environment.
