WHITLEIGH BIG LOCAL

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Whitleigh Big Local is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and managed locally by a partnership of local residents and key agencies. Our aim is to provide residents with the tools and training to do things for themselves, to help create a supportive, collaborative and caring community.

Whitleigh Big local has helped to forge strong bonds and is part of the wider community working co-operatively together. This doesn’t mean we don’t have fallouts, we’ve just learnt that we are stronger together so we work hard to find solutions.

OUR VISION

We want to create a better Whitleigh, looking out for the well-being of our residents and helping them to achieve their aspirations, improve their lives and create confidence. We will provide residents with tools to do things for themselves, to help them create a supportive, collaborative and caring community. Whitleigh will have a vibrant local economy, encouraged through strong social enterprise and local business. The plan was created in 2014 as a result of consistent feedback gathered from local residents.

WHAT IS ‘THE BIG LOCAL’?

The BIG Local Programme is delivered in 150 areas across England, and Whitleigh was chosen as one of the few communities in the Southwest. Each community was given £1 million back in 2012 to make a huge positive and lasting difference. We are now in our last few years of funding BUT we still have opportunities to make a difference to the community.

It’s about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make Whitleigh an even better place to live.
